The iPad: More than just an over-sized iPhone

Apple has just posted some Guided Tours for its upcoming iPad. The tours show that the iPad is no toy and it’s certainly not just an over-sized iPhone or iPod Touch. This device has heaps of potential and its popularity can only make it better. There are literally hundreds of thousands of apps in the AppStore for just about anything and the only thing that was limiting developers from creating more capable apps was the form factor and power of the iPhone/iPod Touch. The with the 9.7″ display of the iPad, coupled with the power of the device and teamed up with heavy competition to deliver good apps, it’s clear that we’ll start seeing some mighty awesome things soon. Kotaku has posted a list of 50 games that will be available for the iPad at launch. Engadget has also posted an article showing some more powerful apps that show that the iPad is way more than just an over-grown iPhone.

Unfortunately though, the iPad is currently only going to be in the US. No other firm dates have officially been set for other regions. For Australia, UK and the like, the release is in “late April”, so for now we have to wait. Hopefully by May we’ll have a shot at it.

I see a lot of potential in this, a lot of potential. It is apparent that the iPad is already changing the shape of the world… It’s now a little more oval…

I’ll tip the iPad apps cost more than the iPhone/Pod apps.…..

Still in two minds on getting one.

I’ll also tip that if hardware manufacturers make similar devices exclusively for Googles’ Chrome OS (and it gets dev support) then we might see a nice net app device war :)
