    Samsung I8520
Samsung I8520 Halo: Wow, what more can I say?

First reaction to this device is wow! Hot off Mobile World Congress 2010, this device has a  3.7″ Super AMOLED with Android 2.1  and an 8MP camera with 720p video recording. Did I mention it has a projector too? This phone has the specs to make it the feature phone of 2010. You know, like the i8910 Omnia HD was for 2009 and the i8510 Innov8 was for 2008 etc. Really amazing stuff they got here. The official specs after the break:

    Samsung I8520 / Product Specifications

    Network HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76Mbps UMTS (900/1900/2100),
    EDGE / GPRS (850/900/1800/1900)
    Display 3.7” WVGA Super AMOLED
Camera 8MP AF w/ Flash (Front : VGA)
    Video H.264, H.263, MPEG4, Divx/Xvid, VC-1, 720p@30fps(de/encoding)
    Audio MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, WMA, WAV, MID, AC3
FM Radio with RDS, 3.5mm Ear jack, 3D Sound Effect(Dual Speaker)
Value-added Features A-GPS, Wi-Fi(b/g/n), Specialized Projector UI, Hybrid Widgets, IM, Email,
DLNA, Samsung Kies, Push Service(SNS, IM, Email)
Connectivity Bluetooth v2.1 / USB 2.0 High Speed
    Memory Internal memory: at least 2GB (4Gb ROM / 3Gb RAM + 16GB MoviNAND)
External memory: MicroSD (up to 32GB)
    Size 123 x 59.8 x 14.9 mm / TBD g
    Battery Life 1800 mAh
(Talk time: up to 470 mins (On 3G mode)/ up to 850 mins (On 2G mode))
(Stand-by time: up to 530 hrs (On 3G mode) / up to 630 hrs (On 2G mode))

Wait, a projector? I couldn’t help but notice that it also has voice control, an email app, 720p video @30fps, multiple home screens etc.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Samsung’s response to  the report! They said it,implementing the features would be equivalent to developing a whole new device. This is it…with a projector…and a Super AMOLED display…and more. I really don’t want to waste my money buying in to all this glory, but wow. The projector will probably be buggy/slow/useless or something and it will never be updated to Android 3.0 when that comes out knowing Samsung. But wow.

Nice looking phone and specs seem good — but we all know what Samsung really mean when they write: 720p@30fps(de/encoding)
And we also know that the final version of this phone will propably loose a couple of features when it hit the market!

Don’t be drawn in by this. Samsung always reveal massive amazing specs but disappoint when the phone reaches the shops. Specs are only impressive if you have a company willing to follow through after launch

I’m really considering this but i’m going to wait MONTHS to hear from people about the phone…i’m not making an sudden decision about a phone now

      DAMN Sams00ng.
Knowing me, I’m making the same mistake as I did with the I8910. I’ll hate them even more if they make me buy this…

If only it had a Nokia logo.…..

I am confused, Some websites state 5MPX, some say 8. The device says 8MPX but the Samsung rep on one of the preview videos says 5MPX. Either way that lens looks tiny and unlikely to produce pictures as good as the i8910 and nowhere near the best in the 5 or 8MPX class. The phone does look good all round but I hope that Samsungs foolish shock tactics wont work this time and that they have upset enough customers to get the drive for this device and the wave.

@Yade it is confusing, I got the specs from the Samsung MWC press release. Maybe they made a mistake. I hope Samsung doesn’t do the usual with this one but it’s not bada so they probably will :-/

@ssj3gogeta So true, I won’t leap to get this until the reviews start flowing. The i8910 got and still has good reviews floating around though, it’s hard to predict the success or failure of these devices.

@anphase Predicting success or failure is easy, it is Samsung!! :-)
I wish that wasn’t the case but their track record isn’t good.

Outdated? The specs are all over the place. I got them from the Samsung website. They are also on GSM Arena, Phone Arena and of course Samsung. Notice the deliberate use of Gb vs GB. The specs are correct.

      will see.…
Right now this phone feels like it’s gonna be rushed, it’s gonna get downgraded by the time of release with ppl wondering what happened again with that SO-CALLED VIDEO EDITOR, and it will be bypassed possibly by HTC Scorpian within just few months!!
      but, it’s Android ^.^

Samsung is again trying to fool us by showing us amazing specs as it was in the case of i8910, and I also expect a lot of bugs initially and also some stupid ones(like the stop button bug of web browser, lol).
But on the other hand if it runs android then it may be good.
I don’t wish for bada as Samsung really sux and it’s support is bad and also I think developers don’t make much stuff compatible with Samsung’s mobiles.
I think I can see the future and I am looking at a bunch of people crying to Samsung to fix the bugs, but Samsung is sitting quietly looking forward to the release of some other operating system or some mobile, and people are crying that please try to put some other OS on the mobile.
And I am already thinking about making a fourm where people will post their problems releated to this new device.(as it happened in the case of i8910) lolzzzz on samsung

Conseidering all the hype about samsung not being able to cope with the issues with the device, specifically speaking about th i8910 on that part. Saying that I can still honestly say W0o00o0o0o00o00o0o0o0w to their phones.… Even I’m living in New Zealand where the i8910 had not network based relase and I personally purchased a Paralell imported device that still amazes me.

Making my point…samsung always have top of the line beath-taking devices, I think it all comes down to the consistency in the firmware production??? Compared to apple when it was first released, their continuous support on the device have made it more stable over the years.…. I am hoping samsung does somthing d with the Bada OS.….

Guttering the i8520 is not based on Bada in this sense.…

But stll looking forward to this phone here on the other side of the world. lol
